Why blocktimes are make-or-break for L1s competing for trading: When buying a race car, you ask, “How fast is it?” If it’s 10x slower, you walk away. You’re not going to waste your time asking about the tires and suspension and aerodynamics. (@thebookofjoey help me out here as I know shit about cars!) Same with blocktimes. Pro traders will always first ask, “What’s your blocktime?” Over 100ms? They’re gone and won’t connect. Not just because it’s too slow – but also because it shows you didn’t design it for traders, so they can assume the rest is also not optimized. Hyperliquid’s 70ms blocktimes is the first enabler that allows them to kill it in perps market share. Conversely, Solana’s 393ms is what has put them on their heels unable to close the gap. It’s not just about blocktimes, but that’s the start. Fogo is at 40ms blocktimes in Testnet – as why would we ever launch an L1 slower than HL? Dont need a phD to know you’re never going to close the gap if you’re slower. Time to be faster.
