Things I felt while driving in Japan
๐ There are really a lot of Japanese compact cars, and it's hard to see foreign cars like those from the Big Three or Porsche, Tesla, etc.
๐ Trucks also drive in the first lane on the highway. Moreover, just because it's the first lane, it doesn't seem to be a passing lane, as they don't exceed 120 km/h.
๐ Lane changes are rarely made on the highway. Most of the time, they just drive in the lane they were in.
๐ I haven't seen a single speeding camera on the highway.
๐ I've never heard the sound of a horn even once.
๐ Most people don't have tinted windows, so they drive using hand signals.
๐ There are almost no illegally parked cars. Especially in residential alleyways, you can't see them at all.
๐ I saw a lot of bicycles. Many middle and high school students commute by bike. It felt like watching a 90s anime. There are many bikes with designs like the one that Shin-chan's mom rides. They're so cute.
๐ Parking fees are quite expensive. In many places, if you park for more than 3 hours, they charge you the full day's parking fee. Kyoto and Osaka are really on the expensive side. Places a bit away from tourist spots are relatively cheaper. Even hotels often have paid parking lots.
๐ Highway tolls are quite expensive. That's why many people use public transportation. As a result, highways are definitely less congested than in Korea.
