Sometimes when reading history books, you can basically understand human nature. During the Warring States period, there is a book called "Guanzi Xiaocheng" that records some thoughts, speeches, and stories of the famous prime minister Guan Zi from the Spring and Autumn period. In it, there is a passage that says, during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, Duke Huan of Qi had a cook named Yi Ya. One day, Duke Huan joked, "I've eaten everything, but I've never eaten baby meat." Without hesitation, Yi Ya cooked his own three-year-old son for Duke Huan to eat. Duke Huan then considered Yi Ya a loyal minister, so Yi Ya gained great favor and power. On his deathbed, Guan Zhong earnestly advised Duke Huan, "My lord, if Yi Ya doesn't even love his own son, how can he love you?" Duke Huan did not listen, and as a result, Yi Ya rebelled and starved Duke Huan to death inside the palace. A person who lacks affection even for their own family must have very selfish motives. If someone can disregard their own relatives, how could they possibly love others? This reasoning is quite sound.
